Background: Current events prove to be an authentic way that students can learn economics. In particular, when students look at current events, and begin to relate the events to their individual experiences, they begin to recognize their presence, role, and function within the economy. Task: Students will have the opportunity to blog about a current event of their own choosing. Students will
Utilize the Daylife website to choose a topic of interest.
Students will identify the choosen topic, and develop a blog posting on that topic, utilizing their blogger account.
The blog posting should identify the impact the topic will have on our national and global economy. This is not a critical analysis of the topic, rather it is a statement by the author thoughts and ideas, with an economic slant.
Students will then gather four other blog addresses from their fellow students, and subscribe to them using their bloglines account. Once they have subscribed to those accounts, students will read their fellow classmates blogs, and comment on their fellow student's blog.
It is important that the read/write element of a blog will offer the students an opportunity to develop a truly collaborative learning community.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed on their own blog. This will be equivalent to 100 points and will be a part of the writing portion of the course.
Students will be assessed on their comments on four other blogs. These comments are to be a continuation of the intellectual ideas discussed in the blog. This will be equivalent to 40 points and will be a part of the writing portion of the course.
